Chanté Lewis
Chanté Lewis Bio
A New York City native currently residing in Los Angeles, Chanté Lewis, is a writer, director, actor, occasional editor, and founder of Trance Ending Films, an independent film company.
Several years ago, Chanté discovered her deep passion for storytelling at church as she witnessed how moved the congregation became by her work. Her writing focuses on empowering and transforming the human experience by capturing hearts. Chanté aims to tap into the well of emotion and tackle hard-to-discuss subjects.
Chanté studied screenwriting in 2017 at UCLA's School of Film and Television. In 2020, she joined the Women of Color Filmmakers and made two films. "Samsara," created in the inaugural 2021 Summer Lab, weaves her love for sci-fi/fantasy with a semi-biographical quest for self-love. "Hold On," Chanté's most recent film (and the recipient of three awards and created as a mentee in the inaugural 2023 Director's lab), witnesses the mental anguish endured while grieving the loss of a loved one and the journey to pushing through.
Chanté is committed to exploring innovative storytelling techniques in entertainment, therapeutic applications, and social advocacy. Her explorations extend to researching virtual and augmented reality through MIT's MIT xPro program. Certified in Mental Health First Aid, "Hold On" reflects her dedication to mental health advocacy through her work. With this film, she aims to raise awareness and drive meaningful conversations in partnership with Hollywood, nonprofits, healthcare, academia, and Corporate America. Chanté is developing her first full-length feature, I Declare War. I Declare War, a semi-autobiographical film spanning drama, fantasy, and horror genres, delves into the tragedy of friendly fire within the context of family dynamics and contentious child custody battles.
